200 Lean®: The World’s Leading Magnetic Media Manufacturing System for the Hard Disk Drive Industry
200 Lean
Intevac’s 200 Lean is the world’s leading production deposition tool for Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR). The system takes advantage of our philosophy of efficient equipment design to provide higher throughput from a smaller footprint, increase throughput per square-foot of factory floor space and dramatically reduce cost of ownership.
The 200 Lean’s extendible modular architecture easily accommodates multiple disk sizes and the growing number of thin-film process steps required by advanced HDD technologies such as PMR, heat-activated media and eventually nano-patterned media. Film deposition capability includes hard magnetic layers, non-magnetic layers, soft under-layers and carbon layers.
The 200 Lean system can be configured with as few as four process stations or as many as 28. Its footprint is just a third that of the nearest competitor’s system, and when combined with over 800 disks per hour (dph) throughput enables a remarkable space utilization of 20 dph/ ft² and the lowest total cost of ownership. The compact, flexible design increases process utilization from about 65% to 80% by reducing the time to transport disks between process stations to less than one second.

200 LEAN UPGRADE
The 200 Lean upgrade puts the system at the forefront of magnetic media manufacturing technology, while maintaining the same highly efficient space utilization, low cost of ownership and operational efficiency of the 200 Lean. Several mechanical system improvements may be incorporated into the existing 200 Lean platform that can increase throughput of the tool to 1000 disks per hour (depending on customer-specific process configuration).
Additional upgrade benefits include improved vacuum performance, more reliable disk handling and reduced defects. The upgrade is capable of delivering 25 dph/ft² of floor space compared to the 20 dph/ft² of the 200 Lean. An upgrade kit is available to enhance the performance of installed 200 Lean systems.
