Position Overview

The Chemical & Biological (Chembio) Threat Applications Scientist will be responsible for actively driving and managing the scientific and technological evaluation stage of the sales process to ensure successful R&D contract and program wins.  The Applications Scientist will work with the business development team as the key technical advisor and product advocate for our solutions The Applications Scientist must be able to articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical customers. The Applications Scientist must be able to identify all technical issues to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process. Position reports to Vice President and General Manager, DeltaNu, a business unit of Intevac Photonics.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and delivery of technical and business development presentations
  • Respond to functional and technical elements of RFIs/RFPs
  • Analyze and suggest areas for value engineering to provide most ideal solutions
  • Coordinate and/or produce pre-sales drawings to support the sales process
  • Convey customer requirements to Project Management team
  • Develop cost models for new R&D and program contracts
  • Complete production analysis for creation of proposals
  • Complete thorough hand off documents and data for submittal of signed contracts to business
  • Develop and present scientific and technical papers at key ChemBio conferences.

Qualifications

  • Ideal candidate must be self-motivated with a proven track record in Chembio.
  • Comfortable in the dynamic atmosphere of a solution-oriented organization with a rapidly expanding customer base and product offering.
  • Must possess strong presentation skills and be able to communicate professionally in written responses to emails, RFPs, submitting reports and presenting papers.
  • Organized and analytical, able to eliminate sales obstacles through creative and adaptive approaches.
  • Honest, open, flexible, positive "can-do" attitude.
  • Exceptional ability to solve problems.
  • Possesses strong leadership and relationship building skills.
  • Wants to win and manage effectively on both the strategic and tactical issues --- and ready to switch between the two.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including presentation skills. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions to executives, managers, customers, vendors, etc.
  • High degree of customer focus.
  • Strong bias for action.
  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering is required
  • o Experience in theoperation and implementation of Raman, Infrared, or other molecular spectroscopy based instrumentation
  • US Citizenship required and current Top Secret clearance a plus.
  • Must be based in DC or Maryland.
