Intevac’s 200 Lean™ system is the world’s leading production deposition tool for perpendicular media recording (PMR). The 200 Lean fully utilizes Intevac’s Lean philosophy of equipment design to provide higher throughput from a smaller footprint, enabling more magnetic disks to be manufactured per square-foot of factory floor space while dramatically reducing cost of ownership.

The 200 Lean’s extendible architecture easily accommodates multiple disk sizes and the growing number of thin-film process steps required by advanced HDD technologies such as PMR, heat-activated media and eventually nano-patterned media. Film deposition capability includes hard magnetic layers, non-magnetic layers, soft under-layers and carbon layers.

The 200 Lean system can be configured with as few as four process stations or as many as 24. Its footprint is just a third that of the nearest competitor’s system, and when combined with over 800 dph throughput enables a remarkable space utilization of 20 dph/ ft2 and the lowest total cost of ownership. The compact, flexible design increases process utilization from about 65% to 80% by reducing the time to transport disks between process stations to just one second.
