SANTA CLARA, Calif. — BUSINESS WIRE — October 7, 2003
Intevac, Inc. (Nasdaq:IVAC) received an order for eight Intevac(R) 200 Lean disk deposition systems. The order provides for the delivery of all eight systems during the first half of calendar 2004.
Kevin Fairbairn, Intevac CEO, commented: "We are very pleased to receive this order for the first production rollout of Intevac's new 200 Lean disk deposition system. This order is further evidence that the hard disk drive media industry is entering a new investment cycle, after making no significant investments in new capacity since 1998. The new investment cycle is being driven by the need to add capacity in the short term and the need to begin retooling the installed base of deposition equipment in preparation for the introduction of advanced media technologies.
"The 200 Lean is our latest-generation system," Fairbairn continued, "and provides significantly enhanced capabilities relative to the installed base of more than 90 Intevac(R) MDP-250B systems. The 200 Lean provides higher throughput from a smaller footprint, which enables more disks to be manufactured per square-foot of factory. The flexible design of the 200 Lean allows rapid reconfiguration to accommodate product changeovers and new media technology. The modular design of the 200 Lean also allows our customer to easily add additional process steps, as advanced media technologies, such as perpendicular recording, are introduced."
