SANTA CLARA, Calif. — BUSINESS WIRE — August 21, 2003
Intevac, Inc. (Nasdaq:IVAC) hosted a visit by Rep. Mike Honda (D-San Jose) as he toured industry-leading companies involved in high technology research, development, and production for a wide range of applications.
While touring Intevac's research laboratories and manufacturing facilities, Rep. Honda reiterated the role of Silicon Valley companies in providing the infrastructure to accelerate the development of key technologies, products, and services. "Our country's economic and military power, in many ways, is based on our innovative and technological strength. Companies like Intevac are developing ground-breaking technologies that are beneficial to our nation's security and create jobs in Silicon Valley. I'll continue to fight in Congress for policies that allow advanced technologies to proliferate," Honda stated.
Rep. Honda saw demonstrations of Intevac LIVAR® and its low-light camera capabilities that produce more information at long range than was previously available. The Intevac low-light camera has high sensitivity and small size. "Witnessing advanced technology is much different than reading or hearing about it," said Rep. Honda. "You really cannot appreciate the power of this technology until you see it in person."
Intevac LIVAR® long-range target identification systems enable high-resolution digital video imaging of objects at night and at significantly greater distance than existing infrared and other viewing devices.
Intevac Chief Executive Kevin Fairbairn commented: "As vice-chairman of the Democratic task force on homeland security and a member of the science and budget committees, Congressman Honda is an important figure in assuring that the many important needs of not only California, but also the nation, are met. His quick and thorough understanding of complex technologies and related development programs are a benefit to companies in his district and his Congressional committees. And his energy and genuine interest are especially beneficial to all of us depending upon him to represent our interests in Washington."
