Intevac Announces Signing of Agreement to Supply Next Generation Intevac 200 Lean Disk Deposition Systems

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — BUSINESS WIRE — August 11, 2003

Intevac, Inc. (Nasdaq:IVAC) today announced the signing of a multi-year Capital Equipment Supply Agreement with one of its customers to supply Intevac(R) 200 Lean thin-film disk deposition systems, and the receipt of orders for two systems under that agreement.

The deliveries of the two systems are expected late in 2003. Deliveries of production systems are expected to begin in 2004. Orders for production systems are contingent on a number of factors, including market demand and the qualification of the Intevac(R) 200 Lean by the customer.

Kevin Fairbairn, Intevac CEO, commented: "I am very pleased that our customer has chosen the Intevac(R) 200 Lean thin-film deposition system. The Intevac(R) 200 Lean is our latest generation system and will provide significantly enhanced capabilities relative to our current Intevac(R) MDP-250B systems. The Intevac(R) 200 Lean provides higher throughput from a smaller footprint, which will enable more disks to be manufactured per square foot of factory. The flexible design of the Intevac(R) 200 Lean will allow quick reconfiguration of customers' systems to accommodate product changeovers and new media technology. The modular design of the Intevac(R) 200 Lean is designed to also allow easy additions of process steps as advanced media technologies, such as perpendicular recording, are introduced."
