SANTA CLARA, Calif. — BUSINESS WIRE — March 26, 2003
Intevac, Inc. (Nasdaq:IVAC) today introduced its NightVista™ night vision video camera at the International Security Conference West in Las Vegas.
The NightVista™ is a night/day video camera which offers up to SXGA resolution (1280 x 1024) with night time sensitivity comparable to a Gen III night vision device. The NightVista™ also offers compact size, with a camera body small enough to fit inside a two-inch cube, and power consumption of less than two watts. Output will be offered in both analog (RS170) and digital (Ethernet) formats.
"We think systems integrators will find the NightVista™ especially appealing because of its small size, low power requirements and digital features," said Chris Lane, general manager of Intevac's commercial imaging division. "The compact design makes this unit attractive for concealed installations, portable uses, or legacy systems with limited space. Additionally, the camera's very low power draw facilitates its use in remote areas where power is at a premium. The ability of the sensor to support analog video and high-speed digital outputs will enable the NightVista™ to integrate into legacy CCTV, networked, or wireless systems."
Kevin Fairbairn, Intevac chief executive officer, commented: "The critical technology that enables the NightVista™ camera is an Electron Bombarded Active Pixel Sensor (EBAPS™) imager that was initially funded under a cost sharing project awarded to Intevac by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. This EBAPS™ imager has comparable sensitivity to Gen III night vision technology but in a more compact package that offers video rate digital output, rather than the direct view "green glow" image provided by traditional night vision tubes. Late in 2002 Intevac was awarded a contract from Science Application International Corporation (SAIC) to develop a prototype miniature camera based on its EBAPS™ technology for head mounted display applications for the US Army."
Intevac will be exhibiting its NightVista™ and LIVAR® products from March 26 through March 28 at the International Security Conference West at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas.
Intevac's NightVista™ camera products are expected to be available in sample quantities this summer. For further information on NightVista™, please contact Vince Tarpey at 408/486-9888 or vtarpey@intevac.com.
